Australia Sydney Metro
The subway in this city is the largest public transport project in Australia. It will transform the metropolis, offering more trains and faster services through the network. John Holland CPB Ghella (JHCPBG) was contracted to design and construct tunnel and station excavation work for Metro City and Southwest.
The works include:
- Two twin 15.5-kilometer rail tunnels from Chatswood to Marrickville, including under the Sydney Harbour and CBD excavation, and civil works for six new subway stations at Crows Nest, Victoria Cross, Barangaroo, Martin Place, Pitt Street and Waterloo.
- Construction of two dive sites at Chatswood and Marrickville and a rail crossover cave at Barangaroo.
- Excavation of a temporary shaft at Blues Point to recover tunnel boring machines and a substation shaft at Artarmon to provide power for future train operations.
- Prefabricated plant in Marrickville to produce concrete tunnel lining segments.
The opening of the city’s subway and southwest line is scheduled for 2024.
TFI – Tunnels & Formworks International designed and fabricated the cavern formwork systems at the Martin Place, Pitt Street and Victoria Cross station sites and for the crossover cavern at the Barangaroo station site.
